Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Ali Almossawi is an alumnus of MIT’s engineering systems division and Carnegie Mellon’s school of computer science. His books include An Illustrated Book of Bad Arguments, An Illustrated Book of Loaded Language, and Bad Choices. His writing has appeared in publications such as Wired. He works and lives in San Francisco.
Alejandro Giraldo holds a degree in graphic design from UPB Medellín and a master’s in art direction from ELISAVA (the Barcelona School of Design and Engineering). He runs the clothing company Velmost and works as a freelance illustrator. He lives in Medellín, Colombia.

    Ist Ihnen auch schon einmal die Antwort im Hals steckengeblieben, weil irgendjemand Ihnen ein so absolut niederschmetterndes Argument an den Kopf knallte (..."Wenn wir erst einmal den Burkini in deutschen Freibädern erlauben, die lange dauert es dann, bis auch unsere deutschen Frauen in der Bhurka herumlaufen müssen?") Ali Almossawi hat kurz und knapp die wichtigstens Killer-Argumente erläutert - das oben zitierte heißt übrigens "slippery slope argument" und gezeigt, warum und wo sie falsch liegen. Seine Anleitung zur Selbstverteidigung sind klar und deutlich. Unverzichtbar als Geheimwaffe für jeden, der häufig diskutiert!
    Unnötig an dem Buch waren die umfangreichen Illustrationen, die nicht wirklich viel über den Text aussagen; eine als Titelblatt hätte genügt.

    I saw this on the web Page, read it once. Went back an hour later and read it again. Logged into Amazon and bought the hardback. Since then I have it on my desk and read one argument type again every day.. It worries me how many of these conversations I encounter during a normal week. I think if I was rich enough, I'd just give out a copy to everyone..

    Das Buch ist sehr lustig geschrieben. Da ich Lehrerin werd und später meinen SchülerInnen ja gerne Mal beibringen möchte, das sie mich all s glaub sollen, hab ich das Gefühl, dieses Buch eignet sich richtig gut dazu. Außerdem ist es wirklich schön illustriert.

    Now I know why I always believe the unbelievable: It's wrapped up in bad arguments. I am not saying I'll win the next argument, but I'll tackle my opponent perhaps more swiftly. Good examples, nicely explained and sometimes very recognisable.

    I honestly didn’t like this book, I found the writing to be unclear, with a poor attempt made explain in detail. While the supporting pictures were novel, they did little to help solidify the “bad arguments” in one’s brain. I really would not recommend this book at all, I sent it straight back.

    Aunque no es un libro infantil, el formato es el de un cuento de niños, muy bien encuadernado y con material de calidad. Aunque el contenido exacto está gratis en internet en varios idiomas en la misma página de los autores, merece la pena tenerlo en papel. Puede ser un regalo muy simpático.
    El contenido es muy interesante, conocía algunas de las falacias pero no pensaba que hubiera tantas! No creo que los niños deban leerlo solos, sencillamente no entenderán el contenido, pero leerlo con niños de 10 años en adelante pueder dar pie a conversaciones interesantes con ellos y pueder ser realmente formativo.

    かわいいイラストだが、子ども向けの本ではない。もちろん子どもが読んでも良いのだが、日本ではあまり系統立って教えられることがないファラシーをまとめた本。ファラシー（論理的誤謬）は元々哲学的論争のテクニックで指摘され、その後ディベートの禁じ手となったので、英語圏では学校でも教えられているんだが、インターネット上の議論が日常になってきて改めて注目されているようだ。英語上級者で生の議論に参加しようと考えている人には一読を勧めたい。日本語でしょっちゅう議論に巻き込まれている人にもお勧め。

    The information is extremely well laid out and the illustrations are fabulous. I have preteen and teenaged children. Getting a good grasp on creating well thought out arguments has been really helpful with some challenging discussions 😂 Plus, I’ve always wanted to understand this material better and this book makes it entertaining to learn.
